BOUGAINVILLEA OF GLENDORA

bougainvillea6.jpg

GLENDORA BOUGAINVILLEA
Planted in 1901 by the R. W. Hamlins, early citrus growers. The GLENDORA BOUGAINVILLEA is the largest growth of the exotic plant in the United States. The parent stock was brought to California by a whaling ship about 1870, and the vines survive as one of the best examples remaining of the early 20th century promotional image of California as a Paradise.

You will notice that the huge Bougainvilleas are not in bloom as the smaller ones. The heaviest blooms is in May, June and July.

How we spent our Easter Sunday 2004--- Enjoy the tour.......!!

An ENGLISH GARDEN........ and PINK!

glendora1.jpg

Downtown GLENDORA streets are lined with groomed trees in the shape of 'mushrooms'! No this isn't "ALICE IN WONDERLAND"!. Up and down the streets are antique shops, restaurants and the best 'BAKERY'.....but get there early; the pastry goods sell out quick!

This is my "English Country DREAM HOME" located in Claremont- it sits on a corner and the 'CAT HOUSE' is located two homes behind it.

dreamhome2.jpg

This home belonged to the man who founded and owned the city of 'CLAREMONT'. His daughter and her husband now own the home. They are both professors at the College in Claremont- the finest engineering school in the United States in ranking.

dreamhome3.jpg

The home is over run by trees and shrubbery. After stalking the home for many weeks, knocking on doors and interigating the 'mailman'.....the owners stay here two nights a week just to make a statement.....we live here, and we aren't going to trim the bushes or the trees no matter what neighbors say......

dreamhome4.jpg

Standing in ankle deep 'ivy'-- I hope not 'poison ivy'-- this is the back of the home. It is totally gorgeous. It would be if I owned it!! The price on this home-- priceless.

This is the view of the backyard. It is very, very narrow and my dream 35 foot 'LAP POOL' out the French doors. Behind the house sits and old Mercedes-- and it sits and sits and sits....

BOUGAINVILLEA

You can see the size of the 'BOUGAINVILLEA' compared to the height of a man.

The small adobe bungalow was painted by the previous owner who loved her cats and saved the tree that stood for nearly 100 years! If you look closely the painting identically depicts the tree. Her playful cats are sitting on branches. It sold to the new owner who paid 1.4MILLION. Welcome to CALIFORNIA-- 'Land of FRUIT AND NUTS'!
